Prerana Prakash Wagh* and Dalvi Prashant

Abstract

This case study presents a patient who reported decreased fetal movements and was diagnosed with oligohydramnios at 32 weeks of gestation. An abdominal examination suggested oligohydramnios since the fundal height was lower during the amenorrhoeic phase and the fetal components were easily palpable, which was further verified by ultrasound. USG showed AFI to be 6.1 cm. It happens when the fetus exhibits renal agenesis, following PROM, persistent amniotic fluid leakage, placental insufficiency as observed in post-maturity syndrome or PIH or when the gestational age is beyond 42 weeks. In this case, the pregnant patient, who was reaching the eighth month of her pregnancy, complained of reduced fetal movement and oligohydromnios were administered with Vidaryadi Ksheerpaka. The properties of Vidaryadi gana are garbhasthapaka, Madhura rasa, sheetaveerya, balya, brihana and rasayana. Goksheera possesses sheetaveerya and balya, brihmana, nityarasayana, madhura rasatmaka, and ajanmasatmya. Vidaryadi Ksheerapaka consists of fine powder of Vidari, Shatavari, Shaliparni, Prushniparni, Bala, Guduchi and Sariva 1 g each made into Ksheerapaka form and administered twice a daily, for consecutive 1 month. It was observed that after taking Vidaryadi Ksheerapaka there was increase in the fetal movements and growth of the fetus as it nourishes the fetus and helped improve the amniotic fluid levels which were evident after administering for 1 month. From the study it has been observed that, in conditions of Garbhodaka Kshaya (Oligohydramnios), administration of Vidaryadi Ksheerapaka is beneficial in terms of fetal growth, maternal wellbeing and to increase in the levels of amniotic fluid.
