A CROSS-SECTIONAL STUDY ON MEDICATION ADHERENCE AND QUALITY OF LIFE AMONG CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE PATIENTS

. Abstract Background: Chronic kidney disease is progressive, irreversible and eventually ends up in End stage renal disease, therefore earlier detection and management is considered in minimizing morbidity and mortality. Poor adherence is the major clinical issue in management therefore good medication adherence is important to obtain desired therapeutic outcome which in turn improve quality of life of patient. Thus, this study was designed to test patient compliance on medication and improve quality of life in patients. Objectives: The main objective of our study is to assess the level of adherence and identify non adherence factors and quality of life among patients. Methodology: A cross-sectional questionnaire-based study was conducted among patients for a period of six months. Adherence to medications was assessed by Medication Adherence Rating Scale, factors relating to non-adherence was assessed by self-made questionnaires and quality of life was assessed with help of kidney disease quality of life-short form 36 questionnaires. One to one follow up was done after each one-month up to three months of initial data collection. The results were analysed by using Microsoft excel sheet and Statistical package for social science (SPSS) software. Result: Among 102 patients 66 males and 37 were females, out of them psychological and therapy related factor were most common reason for non-adherence.
