DEVELOPMENT AND EVALUATION OF CURCUMIN LOADED NANOSPONGES FOR COLON DRUG DELIVERY
Gautam Seema*, Singh Arun Kumar, Bhardwaj Manoj.
Abstract Drug targeting to specific sites creates a challenging task for the formulation designer. These problems may be solved by formulating the colloidal or vesicular carrier system within micro or nanometer size range. Nanotechnology is science of material within the nanometer range. Nanosponge is a novel and emerging nanotechnology based formulation which offers controlled release of drug at the target site. About 40% of new drugs are poorly soluble in water, which hinders their clinical application. Curcumin is used as model bioactive agent to be used in this research study. Clinical efficacy of Curcumin can be an effective has been already proven. The low water solubility and poor bioavailability of curcumin basic problem faced by scientist. It can be overcome by formulating the nanotechnology based formulation like nanosponges. Clinical importance of cucumin in colon diseases like inflammatory bowel diseases (Chron’s disease and ulcerative colitis) irritable bowel syndrome and colon cancer has been reported. So the development of curcumin loaded nanosponge will increase the bioavailibility and retention time at the colon. Due to small size and porous nature of the novel delivery system they can easily bind to poorly-soluble drugs within their matrix and prevent drug from rapid metabolism and excreation, improve their bioavailability. The nanosponge of curcumin is prepared by solvent evaporation method. Further the formulated nanosponges are evaluated for its Phase Solubility, Particle Size Determination, Zeta Potential, SEM ,TEM analysis, Loading Efficiency, and Production Yield and in vitro release study. Keywords: Nanosponges, curcumin ,targeted drug delivery, colloidal carrier. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
