COLLECTION OF MUTRA (URINE) AND ITS USE IN DIAGNOSIS OF DISEASE IN AYURVEDA: A REVIEW ARTICLE

Abstract

Ayurveda believe in equilibrium of Dosha–Dhatu–Mala theory as “Dosh dhatu mala moolam hee shariram.[1,2,3,4,5] Examination of patient in Ayurveda described under Rogi Pariksha. In Rogi Pariksha, Astavidha Pariksha is important which is described by Acharya Yogratnakar.[6] After Nadi and Mala Pariksha, Examination of Mutra described. Urine has been considered as one of the most important part among mala in Ayurveda. Urine sample collection is an important for urine examination and proper diagnosis of disease. It gives a description of urine when, how and in what kind of pot to be stored for the examination. According to Ayurveda, at morning time before sunrise, mid-stream fresh urine sample should be collected in a clean glass vessel. This method takes much similarities with the method of collection of urine sample described in texts of modern medicine. According to urine odour, color, quantity etc. diagnosis of disease done. Almost all the acharya of Ayurveda has described the important of urine examination for diagnosis of disease.
