ESTIMATION OF PIOGLITAZONE HYDROCHLORIDE BY UV SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC METHOD

Abstract

Pioglitazone hydrochloride, a widely prescribed anti diabetic drug belongs to class IΙ under BCS and exhibit low and variable oral bioavailability due to its poor aqueous solubility. A simple, sensitive, accurate, precise, reproducible and cost effective UV spectroscopic method has been developed for the estimation of Pioglitazone hydrochloride. It shows maximum absorption at 269 nm in ethyl acetate with a regression coefficient of 0.992. Beer’s law was obeyed in the concentration range of 2-10 μg/ml. The method was validated for linearity, precision, accuracy, sensitivity and specificity. Validation parameters were carried out as per the guidelines of International Conference for Harmonization.
