ADVANCING UROLITHIASIS TREATMENT THROUGH HERBAL MEDICINE: A FOCUS ON TRIBULUS TERRESTRIS FRUITS

. Abstract The manifestation of Urolithiasis (Stone diseases) in the urinary system is considered one of the most common diseases, and it has very severe problems throughout the globe. An effective and safer alternative is required in this aspect of treatment. Tribulus terrestris is the most widely known plant used for medicinal purposes, especially in its potential as an antiurolithiatic agent. This present paper reviews the various etiology and risk factors associated with urolithiasis as it explored the action of this plant as a potential herbal remedy. It includes the phytochemical constituents, the action mechanism, and its effectiveness regarding inhibiting calcium oxalate crystal formation and causing diuresis and reduction of oxidative stress in kidney tissues. The comparative reviews concerning any other herbal medicines and conventional treatments have been presented with challenges of standardization, safety, and regulatory issues. The future immediate agenda is rigorous clinical trials and merging knowledge of traditional herbal treatments with modern technology to improve treatment efficacy for patients with urolithiasis.
