ROLE OF AYURVEDA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF FEMALE INFERTILITY DUE TO TUBAL BLOCKAGE

. Abstract Introduction: Infertility is defined as the inability to conceive within one or more years of regular unprotected coitus. There are various factors causing female infertility like ovarian, uterine, tubal, cervical, vaginal, etc. Of these 25-35 % cases of female infertility are due to tubal factors. According to Ayurvedic classics, infertility is defined as Vandhyatva and is not limited to inability to get conceive but also includes failure of successful continuation of pregnancy leading to live child. According to Ayurveda, vitiation of Tridosha, predominantly Vata Dosha and disturbance in Rutu, Kshetra, Ambu and Beeja leads to vandhyatva. According to Ayurveda, infertility due to tubal factors can be correlated with Strivandhyatva due to Kshetra abnormality Artavabeejavaha Srotorodha (obstruction of fallopian tube). According to modern science, the management for female infertility due to tubal factors is tubal reconstructive surgery, IVF Embryo transfer. This management is invasive, time consuming and also not easily accessible and affordable. Hence, an alternative management protocol is very essential to overcome such difficulties. According to Ayurveda, Shodhana and Uttarbasti is beneficial in the management of female infertility due to tubal factors. Uttarbasti is an important Stanik Chikitsa in menstrual irregularities, infertility and diseases of female genital tract. Objective of the review is to study ayurvedic approach in female infertility due to tubal factors. Methodology: Databases of google scholar, pubmed were searched to access the related articles using keywords female infertility, tubal factors, uttarbasti, Strivandhaytva. Result and Discussion: Total 20 articles were studied for the review. The articles studied for review indicated role of Ayurvedic approach in understanding and managing female infertility due to tubal factors. From these articles, it is concluded that Ayurvedic approach is beneficial and effective in management of female infertility due to tubal factors.
