DETERMINATION OF TRACE TOXIC ELEMENTS IN BEAUTY CREAMS AND SUN BLOCKS USING AAS AND ICP-AES SPECTROSCOPIC TECHNIQUES*Qurat-ul-ain, Iftikhar Hussain Bukhari, Shazia Kousar and Jeveria Rehman Department of Chemistry, Government College University, Faisalabad, Pakistan. Abstract Skin protection is priority order consideration of modern age. Environmental effect on exposed part of the body leads to deformation of structural composition of tissues and derailing of normal biological mechanisms. Beauty creams and sun blocks are extensively being used to protect the face skin and other exposed part of body. Chemically there are metallic compounds. The presence of toxic metals beyond the permitted limit may lead to chronic effect on skin. The present study was carried out to estimate toxic metals quantitatively. Detection of toxic metals present in different brands of beauty creams and sun block was carried out by using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) and Inductive Couple plasma (ICP-AES) using standard procedures and parameters. The result showed most of the brands of creams carry heavy metals beyond the range of limit prescribed by WHO, except few brands which have metallic profile within prescribed range. Toxic metals present in most of the beauty products above the WHO standard limits that could impose skin disorder problems. Keywords: [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
