Vasanthan G.*, Tamilarasan M., Chandran N., Monisha J., Sirumalar S., Suvitha S., Thamaraikavi K.
Abstract Abutilon indicum, a versatile medicinal plant, has been used in traditional medicine systems for centuries. Its various parts, including roots, leaves, flowers, bark, seeds, and stems, exhibit a wide range of pharmacological properties, such as demulcent, aphrodisiac, laxative, diuretic, pulmonary, and sedative effects. Despite its historical use, scientific validation and standardization of its medicinal properties remain limited. This study delves into the ethnobotanical, phytochemical, and pharmacological aspects of A. indicum, highlighting its potential for preventive and therapeutic healthcare. However, challenges such as habitat destruction, climate change, and overharvesting threaten its availability. To ensure its sustainable use, integrating traditional knowledge with modern pharmacological approaches is crucial. By bridging this gap, we can harness the full potential of A. indicum in contemporary healthcare. Keywords: Abutilon indicum, Malvaceae, Ethnomedicine, Pharmacological properties, Pharmacognostical properties. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
