SOLANUM TUBEROSUM SYRUP: A PROMISING NATURAL REMEDY FOR ARTHRITIS
Punam B. Mahanor*, Nusrat H. Pathan*, Mayuri R. Mandlik*
Abstract Arthritis, characterized by inflammation and pain in the joints, affects millions worldwide, leading to a significant burden on healthcare systems. Traditional treatments for inflammation often include medications like NSAIDs (which reduce pain and swelling) and corticosteroids (which help control inflammation). However, these drugs can sometimes cause side effects, such as stomach problems, weight gain, or weakened bones, especially if used long-term. Recent studies have highlighted the therapeutic potential of natural remedies, including Solanum tuberosum (potato) syrup, as a promising alternative for managing arthritis symptoms. This review examines the bioactive compounds present in Solanum tuberosum, such as phenolic acids, flavonoids, and vitamins, and their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. We look at how potato syrup might help reduce joint pain and swelling. It could work by blocking certain chemicals that cause inflammation and by balancing the effects of harmful substances in the body that contribute to joint damage. Additionally, we discuss various preparation methods for Solanum tuberosum syrup and its palatability, making it an accessible option for patients. Clinical studies and anecdotal evidence supporting its efficacy are also evaluated. Overall, this review underscores the potential of Solanum tuberosum syrup as a natural remedy for arthritis, warranting further research and clinical trials to validate its effectiveness and safety. Keywords: Solanum tuberosum, arthritis, natural remedy, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
