Manisha Sharma* and Sudhanshu S. Tripathi
Abstract Background: The thesis, titled "Effect of Junk Food on Artavavaha Srotas," investigates the impact of junk food consumption on the reproductive system (Artavavaha Srotas) in women. The study emphasizes how junk food, rich in trans fats, sugars, and artificial ingredients, negatively affects female reproductive health. It presents a retrospective clinical survey conducted at Guru Nanak Ayurvedic College and Hospital, Ludhiana, Punjab, involving 212 female volunteers aged 10-55. These participants, from various socioeconomic backgrounds, were examined to identify gynaecological disorders linked to the consumption of junk food. The research explains how junk food leads to various reproductive health issues like menstrual irregularities, PCOD, and infertility by disrupting the body’s doshas and the function of Artavavaha Srotas. It also integrates classical Ayurvedic principles, such as the role of Agni (digestive fire) and Dosha (biological energies), in maintaining reproductive health. The study concludes with observations that emphasize the need for dietary awareness, especially concerning the harmful effects of junk food on women's reproductive health. Objective: To evaluate the effect of junk food on artavavaha srotas w.s.r. to kashtartava. Methodology: Retrospective study. Conclusion: In summary, today's diet, heavily influenced by fast foods and poor nutritional choices, has a profound negative impact on women's reproductive health, leading to a range of disorders from menstrual irregularities to infertility and pregnancy complications.
