Abstract Yoga, a holistic practice integrating physical, mental, and spiritual dimensions, has gained immense popularity globally. However, the anatomical basis of yoga asana practice remains underexplored. Understanding the musculoskeletal, nervous, and other body systems can enhance the efficacy of yoga practices and mitigate injury risks. This review critically examines the role of anatomical knowledge in practicing yoga asana, emphasizing its significance in optimizing alignment, reducing strain, and promoting health. Furthermore, it bridges traditional yogic principles with contemporary anatomical insights. This interdisciplinary approach underscores the need for anatomical awareness among yoga practitioners and educators, fostering safer and more effective practices.
