ANALGESICS USED IN DENTISTRY – A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW
Dr. Deivanayagi*, Praveen Kumar, Pradeep Kumar
Abstract Effective pain management in dentistry is crucial for enhancing patient comfort, satisfaction, and overall treatment outcomes. This comprehensive review delves into the diverse array of analgesics used in dental practice, exploring their mechanisms of action, safety profiles, and evolving trends in pain management strategies. Dental pain can stem from various etiologies, including tooth decay, periodontal disease, trauma, and surgical interventions, necessitating tailored approaches to pain relief. The review encompasses pharmacological agents such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), opioids, and adjuvant analgesics, evaluating their considerations for clinical use. Furthermore, emerging trends in analgesic research, including novel drug delivery systems, pharmacogenomics, and non-pharmacological interventions, are explored for their potential in optimizing pain management outcomes. The review also addresses challenges associated with analgesic therapy in dentistry, such as adverse effects, drug interactions, opioid misuse, and the importance of patient education and informed consent. By synthesizing current evidence and highlighting best practices, this review aims to provide dental practitioners, educators, researchers, and policymakers with valuable insights into the complexities of dental pain management and the evolving landscape of analgesic therapeutics. Keywords: Analgesics, Dental Pain Management, Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs, Opioids, Adjuvant Analgesics. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
