Abstract Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a disease commonly suffered by geriatric patients; more than 95% of diabetes sufferers suffer from type 2 DM. DM is a group of metabolic diseases that occur due to abnormalities in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. The more types of therapy used to improve the quality of patient treatment, the greater the number of drugs, which can also trigger the emergence of drug-related problems (DRPs). The aim of this study was to identify DRPs for the use of antidiabetic drugs in geriatric patients with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM) at the internal medicine inpatient installation at Dr. M. Djamil Central General Hospital, Padang for the period from January to December 2021. This research was conducted non-experimentally with a descriptive design using a cross-sectional method. Retrospective data collection comes from patient medical records. A total of 29 patients were included in the inclusion criteria. The results showed that there were six categories of DRPs identified, namely inappropriate drugs in 3 cases (1.79%), drugs without clear indications in 23 cases (13.70%), drugs without a clear indication as many as 23 cases (13.70%), untreated indications as many as 23 cases (13.70%), overdosage and/or too high frequency as many as 20 incidents (11.91%), too long duration of therapy as many as 1 case (0.60%), and potential drug interactions, as many as 98 cases (58.34%). In this study, it can be concluded that there are drug-related problems (DRPs) in the use of antidiabetic drugs in geriatric patients with type 2 DM at the internal medicine inpatient installation of Dr. M.
