FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF SUNSCREEN LOTION CONTAINING FRUIT EXTRACT - SOLANUM MURICATUM FOR TOPICAL APPLICATION
S. Indira Solai*, Dr. S. K. Senthilkumar, Ananthi. A., Hussain S., Keerthana S., Kishore S. and Vijayalakshmi S.
Abstract Sunscreen lotion is a most prominent cosmetic product that many people use. since exposure to sunlight is known to be a major element in the etiology of the gradual, undesired changes in the physiology and look of skin caused by UV rays. The biologically active substances found in plants are called phytochemicals. Pepino fruit (Solanum Muricatum) pulp is the source of these phytochemicals. For the investigation of novel chemical constituents with therapeutic potential, the extraction of bioactive chemicals from plants and the quantitative and qualitative assessment of these compounds are crucial. Sunscreen lotion is made with varying amounts of pepino fruit extract((1%, 2%, 3% 4% and 5%) in the current investigation. The absorption spectrum of the formulation's dilute test solution from 290 to 320 nm was studied using UV spectroscopy in order to calculate the sun protection factor against UV radiation. Sun protection factor (SPF), viscosity, PH, solubility, and organoleptic characteristics were also evaluated. According to the study's findings, sunscreen lotion made from pepino fruit (Solanum muricatum) can be applied to various skin types based on the SPF that is produced for formulations that have different extract concentrations. Keywords: Pepino fruit, Sunscreen lotion, Sun protective factor, UV– rays, Anti-oxidant. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
