Reena Bhandari*
Abstract Osteoarthritis (OA), commonly referred to as Sandhigata Vata in Ayurveda, is a degenerative joint disease that results in the breakdown of cartilage and changes in the bone structure. It primarily affects older adults and is characterized by joint pain, stiffness, and swelling. This review article explores both the modern medical understanding and the Ayurvedic approach to managing Osteoarthritis. Modern treatments focus on pharmaceuticals, physical therapy, and surgical interventions, while Ayurveda emphasizes holistic approaches such as diet, herbal remedies, and lifestyle changes. The comparison aims to understand the strengths and limitations of each perspective and offer insights into the integration of both approaches for more effective management of Sandhigata Vata. Keywords: Osteoarthritis, Sandhigata Vata, Ayurveda, modern medicine, joint health, herbal medicine, degenerative joint disease, pain management, holistic treatment, Vata dosha.
