LOW COST ALTERNATIVE MEDIA FOR AMYLASE PRODUCTION
Avantika Sawant* and Shubham Panchal
. Abstract Starch is one of the widely used carbon source by various organisms for their energy. Our study focuses on extraction of cheap starch from waste and utilization of this starch for the production of affordable media. Growth media formulated using rice water and pasta water as carbon source and soyabean and besan (Gram flour) as nitrogen source was used to study the growth of amylase producing microbes. Soyabean powder and besan were used as protein sources in the media without further processing. Hydrolytic activity of Amylase enzyme on formulated media was checked. Amylase enzyme was isolated, and its specific activity was determined using the DNSA method and Folin- Lowry method. Thus, the media can be better utilized on pilot scale production of amylase and in small scale industries and laboratories where resources are limited. Keywords: Starch, Affordable media, Amylase.
