ANTIBACTERIAL SCREENING OF MESALAMINE BY PLATE DISC DIFFUSION METHOD
Sruthi K., Amrutha E., Muhammed Mujthab K., Sanazainab* and Sreelakshmi S.
. Abstract Mesalamine (MZL), a commonly used anti-inflammatory drug, was investigated for its potential antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli (Gram negative), Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Staphylococcus aureus (Gram-positive). In qualitative antibacterial assessments, MZL at a concentration of 125μg/mL exhibited the largest inhibition zone against E. coli, followed by S. aureus. Additionally, a quantitative antibacterial analysis was conducted at varying concentrations (125, 250, 500, and 1000 μg/mL) against E. coli, demonstrating a concentration-dependent effect. The findings suggest that MXL possesses notable antibacterial properties, warranting further research into its potential pharmaceutical applications. Keywords: Mesalamine, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
