MICROSPONGE GEL IN TRANSDERMAL DELIVERY: A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW OF ITS ROLE, BENEFITS, ENHANCED SKIN PENETRATION AND EFFICACY
Vinay H. S.*, Krishna K. R., Parthiban S. and Anupama H. B.
. Abstract Microsponges are an innovative drug delivery system that has gained significant attention in transdermal drug delivery applications. These porous, spherical polymeric microspheres offer controlled, sustained, and targeted release of active pharmaceutical ingredients. By encapsulating drugs in microsponges, the system improves the stability, bioavailability, and efficacy of drugs, while minimizing side effects and enhancing patient compliance. The porous structure of microsponges enables a slow, continuous release of active ingredients, preventing rapid clearance from the skin and allowing for prolonged therapeutic effects. This system provides significant advantages over traditional topical dosage forms by overcoming issues of poor diffusion and enhancing skin absorption. Microsponges, therefore, represent a promising advancement in transdermal drug delivery, offering improved therapeutic outcomes and better patient adherence to treatment regimens. The present review focused on microsponge delivering technology with its advantages, characterization, evaluation and release mechanism in transdermal delivery of microsponge. Keywords: Microsponge, Skin penetration, Transdermal drug delivery, Controlled release. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
