THE FERTILITY FRUIT: EXPLORING POMEGRANATE’S FERTILITY BENEFITS

Abstract Pomegranate or Punica granatum L. is an important cultural fruit with religious connotations and is considered as signifier of fertility and life producing fruit. Several of these bioactive compounds present in the plant are polysaccharides, polyphenols, tannins, saponin, and alkaloids. It plays the roles of anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, anti-cancer, regulating immunomodulatory, anti-hypertensive, anti-anemic, and antioxidant among others benefits. Looking at the traditional use of pomegranate its used in different formulation to cure all sort of ailments and is recognized as Rasayana in Ayurvedic system of medicine.[1] The substantial gains shown in research participants who ingested pomegranate extract suggest that punicalagin does assist boost sperm motility and overall counts. Punicalagin's antioxidant properties probably contribute significantly to this improvement in sperm quality.[2] In females, pomegranate has been linked to increased vaginal lubrication and sexual satisfaction, possibly through its hormone-regulating effects.[3] Finally, this review argues that pomegranate should be incorporated into reproductive health management as a complementary natural remedy to the traditional fertility treatments.
