A PHARMACIST'S ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES IN PATIENT COUNSELING ON DIABETES MANAGEMENT

. Abstract Over the past three decades, pharmacists have shifted their focus to patient-oriented counseling, providing patients with information on their disease, medications, and lifestyle modifications. This approach has been shown to improve therapeutic outcomes and patient compliance. Diabetes mellitus, a metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia and abnormalities in carbohydrate, fat, and protein metabolism, requires self-management and adherence to prescribed medication and lifestyle modifications. Pharmacists play a crucial role in counseling, addressing both non-pharmacological and pharmacological measures, and providing education on acute and chronic complications.
