*Vandhana, Dr. Archna, Dr. Sudesh and Dr. Karan Chugh

Abstract

Mental stress, or psychological stress, refers to the feelings of emotional strain or pressure experienced in response to challenges or demands in life. It occurs when an individual perceives that the demands placed on them exceed their ability to cope or handle the situation. Even though Ayurveda doesn’t define Mental stress separately, it’s symptoms and explanation can be found in various classical texts. Ayurveda, has defined Satva as a guna of mana; while Raja and Tama are its doshas. An alpa Satva person is more susceptible to suffer from Mental disorders. There are some causative factors for Manasika Vikaras like Asatmyendriyartha samyoga, Pragyaparadha, and Parinama. An imbalance between Sharirik and Manasik doshas results in Manovaha strotas dushti ultimately leading to Manas rogas. According to Charaka, the mental factors i.e. dhi (intellect), dhriti (courage), and smriti (memory) are derived, from atma (soul) and smriti (memory), sauch (purity) and bhakti (devotion) etc. are derived from sattva (mind). The causative factors of these disorders are pragyanparadha. i.e. derangement of intellect (dhi), patience (dhriti) and memory (smriti). The promotion of mental health and prevention of its disorders can be done by proper diet and drug therapy. The present study aims at observing the effect of Sarvangasana on population. People tend to have immense amount of Mental pressure on them. This Mental stress is seen as a result of many factors such as academics, peer, sexual, financial, environmental, etc. This study will be carried out to study the efficacy effect of Sarvangasana practice on symptoms of mental stress.
