Abstract Menstrual health is a crucial yet often overlooked aspect of a woman’s overall well-being. Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of medicine, offers a comprehensive and preventive approach to menstrual care through the principles of Rajasvallacharya—a set of dietary, behavioural, and lifestyle guidelines specifically prescribed for menstruating women. These time-honored practices emphasize rest, light and warm diet, emotional calmness, and avoidance of strenuous activities during the menstrual phase. Though rooted in tradition, these guidelines are increasingly gaining scientific attention for their physiological relevance. Contemporary research supports the rationale behind many of these practices, citing hormonal fluctuations, altered metabolism, heightened inflammatory responses, and psychological sensitivity during menstruation. Scientific studies have shown that adhering to rest, eating easily digestible foods, and minimizing stress during this period can alleviate menstrual discomfort, regulate hormonal balance, and improve overall reproductive health. This article aims to explore the Ayurvedic perspective on menstrual health, particularly the significance of Rajasvallacharya, and attempts to validate its principles through modern scientific insights. By bridging classical wisdom and contemporary science, it seeks to encourage an integrative approach to menstrual wellness that is both holistic and evidence-based.
