Abstract

Acosmeceuticals is an ingredient with medicinal properties thatmanifests beneficial topical actions and provides protection againstdegenerative skin conditions.Like cosmetics, Cosmeceuticals are topicallyapplied, but they contain ingredients that influence the biologicalfunction of the skin. Cosmeceuticals improve appearance bydelivering nutrients necessary for healthy skin. Cosmeceuticalstypically claim to improve skin tone, texture, and radiance, whilereducing wrinkling.A product can be a drug, a cosmetic, or a combinationof both, but the term "Cosmeceuticals" has no meaning under the law".So the term Cosmeceuticals is not recognized by the Federal Food,Drug, and Cosmetic Act. Although cosmetics and Cosmeceuticals are tested for safety, testing to determine whether beneficial ingredients actually live up to a manufacturer's claims is not mandatory.
