R. Dineshkumar, P. Umamageswari, P. Jayasingam and P. Sampathkumar*
Abstract The present study was undertaken to utilize molasses as organic additives for Spirulina platensis cultivation. Spirulina platensis was mass multiplied with the traditional Zarrouk media and supplemented organically or additionally added to the available molasses in various concentrations. The growth performance of the Spirulina platensis was studied using microscopy, optical density, EC, pH, chlorophyll-a, carbohydrate and the specimen was illuminate by non-natural and sun light. Carbohydrate studies were prepared in molasses substrate for Spirulina platensis growth. Its growth was dependent on the temperature and light which is to be maintained in the finest range. The chlorophyll content was highest in 0.5 ml and 1.5 ml concentrations. To conclude, molasses were rich in organic source for the growth of Spirulina. The study revealed that the growth of Spirulina in both Zarrouk’s media and additionally added organic molasses substrate recorded good growth.
