FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF BUCCO-ADHESIVE DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM FOR THE TREATMENT OF HYPERTENSION
Manasi Thakre*, Dr. Nishant Awandekar and Dr. Millind Umekar
. Abstract This research focuses on the formulation and evaluation of a buccoadhesive tablet of Telmisartan, aiming to improve its bioavailability and provide sustained drug release. Telmisartan, an angiotensin receptor blocker, suffers from low solubility and extensive first-pass metabolism. The formulation utilized HPMC K100M and Carbopol 934P as bioadhesive polymers and was optimized using a 3² factorial design. Evaluation parameters included physical properties, swelling index, drug release, and bioadhesive strength. Batch F9 showed optimal performance with 93.97% drug release and high mucoadhesive strength, demonstrating the potential of buccal delivery in hypertension management.
