COMPARATIVE STUDY OF LANSOPROZOLE SOLID DISPERSIONS AND SURFACE SOLID DISPERSIONS
Yelumarthi Renuka*, Kalyani Kondapalli and Kanapala Hema Grace
. Abstract Proton pump inhibitors (PPI) are a group of drugs that reduce secretion of gastric (stomach) acid. This effect enables healing of upper gastrointestinal disorders including peptic ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), dyspepsia. Proton pump inhibitors are membrane permeable, acid-labile, weak bases and hetero cyclic organic molecules that include both pyridine and benzimidazole moiety linked by methyl sulfinyl group the present study aims to compare the formulation, characterization, and performance of solid dispersions (SDs) and surface solid dispersions (SSDs) of lansoprazole to enhance its solubility and dissolution profile Lansoprazole is an effective acid pump inhibitor inactivates the final enzymatic step of the acid production (inhibiting H+, K+ ATPase enzyme) pathway of parietal cells in a dose dependent manner. Surface solid dispersion is one of the methods to enhance solubility of many insoluble drugs. This method can also improve flow properties of powders. So, this method is chosen to enhance solubility and improve flow properties and dissolution rate of pure lansoprazole.
