Abstract

The ancient Indian healing tradition is known as Ayurveda. Frequently interpreted as the ―science of life‖ from the words veda (knowledge) and ayus (life). For more than 5,000 years, this age-old study of the body, mind, and spirit has existance. Ayurvedic psychology, also known as Graham Chikitsa, is one of the branches of ayurveda according to Ashtanga Ayurveda. It deals with psychiatry and psychology and is also known as bhut vidya. In order to help patients restore their innate state of mental balance, Ayurvedic psychology discusses mental imbalances and how to treat them holistically. The three guna, or that is satva, raja, and tama, can be used to categorize Manas vikruti. Mental disease is considered to be primarily caused by imbalances in vatta, pitta, and kapha as well as past karmas, or ―past deeds.‖ People all throughout the world continue to be influenced by the natural treatment of mental illnesses using the principles of Ayurveda. Understanding the connection between modern medicine and Ayurvedic treatment can aid someone in comprehending how psychiatric medicine has evolved.

Keywords: Ayurveda, bhoot vidya, psychology, doshas, ashtanga ayurveda.
