SYNTHESIS, CHARACTERIZATION AND EVALUATION OF BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITY OF SOME NOVEL BENZIMIDAZOLE DERIVATIVES

Abstract The reaction of benzoic acid derivatives with ammonium thiocyanate yield 4-thiocyanatobenzoicacid. The thiocyano-benzoicacid was condensed with o-phenylenediamine and carbon disulphide to get benzimidazole. These compounds were synthesized in good yield and their structures were confirmed by IR, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR. Antimicrobial activity against bacteria and fungi, anti-inflammatory activity and analgesic activity were studied for the synthesized compounds.
