A MULTIDIMENSIONAL ANALYSIS OF UPADHATU IN AYURVEDIC PHYSIOLOGY AND PATHOLOGY
Dr. Rupali Patidar* and Dr. Babita Sharma
. Abstract Ayurveda always provides the study of any concept from various dimensions. The Physiological and Anatomical entities explained in Ayurveda have many facts leading to deeper understanding of concepts. The entity of upadhatu according to Ayurveda also has multidimensional approach and cannot be categorized into one specific entity. Upadhatu Means Those Which are secondary to Dhatu And Which Originate from Dhatu. Substances That Are Present in The Body Which Only Perform Dharana Karma Is Upadhatu But Do Not Perform Poshan Karma. Ayurveda offers a profound and multifaceted perspective on human physiology, including the unique concept of Upadhatu. These secondary tissues, derived from primary Dhatus, are crucial in maintaining physiological stability and supporting various body functions. While they do not contribute directly to nourishment like Dhatus, they play an essential role in structural support, functional integrity, and disease manifestation. This paper explores the multidimensional nature of Upadhatus — their formation, classification, and correlation with conventional medical science, Doshas, Dhatvagni, Srotas, and Prakriti. It further analyzes how their imbalances lead to specific disorders (Upadhatu Pradoshaja Vikara) and outlines therapeutic approaches. Understanding Upadhatu not only enhances the depth of Ayurvedic diagnostics but also bridges traditional knowledge with modern anatomical and physiological concepts. Keywords: Upadhatu, Ayurveda, Dhatu, Dhatvagni, Srotas, Dosha, Vikara, Prakriti, Rogamarga, Secondary Tissue, Pathogenesis, Traditional Medicine. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
