A STUDY ON IN-VITRO COMPARATIVE EVALUATION OF BRANDED AND GENERIC FUROSEMIDE TABLETS

. Abstract In the pharmaceutical field, quality is a very important issue due to get safe and therapeutically active agents. In-vitro evaluation is one of the authentic ways to ensure the quality, bioavailability as well as optimum therapeutic activity of drug. The main therapeutic activity of Furosemide tablet is diuretic and also utilized for treating high blood pressure and oedema. This study aims to compare two different kinds of furosemide 40 mg tablets, where one type is sale as generic name and another type is sale as branded product in Indian market, to verify if they meet their claims according to Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP) limits for such products. The quality of furosemide or frusemide in the tablet formulations was determined by testing batches of furosemide tablets sold in India for characteristics such as weight uniformity, hardness, disintegration, friability, and an assay based on spectrophotometry. Furosemide 40 mg tablet batches have been tested for furosemide content and found to be within the acceptable range established by the Pharmacopoeia.
