MEDOROGA W.S.R. TO HYPERLIPIDEMIA MANAGEMENT IN AYURVEDA- A CASE STUDY

Abstract Hyperlipidemia is a notable cause of numerous lifestyle disorders like cardiovascular diseases, fatty liver, gall bladder stones, kidney stones, pancreatitis and many other diseases. The prevalence rate of Hyperlipidemia is 81.2% in Indian population. Hyperlipidemia is defined as elevated serum levels of cholesterol, triglycerides or both. It is characterized by abnormally elevated lipid concentrations in blood caused by impaired lipid and lipoprotein metabolism. According to Ayurveda, Hyperlipidemia is Dushti of Medovaha Srotas. The Lipid lowering therapy in modern medicine including Statin and Fibrates is well tolerated with less side effects. But this therapy in most of the cases is used constantly and adds large financial burden in developing countries like India. A 43 years female patient presented with complaints of Bharvruddhi (Overweight), Swedadhikya (Excessive sweating), Angagaurav (Body heavyness), fatigue, dyspnea on exertion, flaccidity, lethargy, foul body odour, polyphagia, excess thirst since 6 months. Shamana Chikitsa was done by giving Triphala guggul and Varunadi kashayam with Nidana Parivarjana and following Pathya-Apathya.
