VATPATRADI LEPA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF MUKHADUSHIKA
Dr. Suraj Sanjay Ahire*, Dr. Sanjeev B. Lokhande and Dr. Priyanka R. Meher
Abstract In the present era, the prevalence of skin disorders is increasing at an alarming rate due to various contributing factors such as environmental pollution, improper dietary practices, hormonal imbalance, and the excessive use of chemical-based cosmetics and personal care products. Among these disorders, Acne vulgaris stands out as one of the most common dermatological problems, particularly affecting adolescents and young adults. It is a self-limiting inflammatory condition primarily associated with puberty, during which hormonal changes lead to hyperactivity of sebaceous glands and increased sebum production. In Ayurvedic literature, Acne vulgaris is closely correlated with the condition known as Mukhdushika, which is classified under Kshudra Roga (minor ailments). It is described as ―Shalmalikantak Prakhya: Kaphamaru Raktaja,‖ indicating thorn-like eruptions on the facial skin caused by the vitiation of Kapha, Vata, and Rakta doshas. These lesions are commonly seen during adolescence and are referred to as Mukhdushika or Yauvan Pidika. The present article attempts to explore the Ayurvedic concept of Mukhdushika in detail and treatment of mukhadushika with ayurvedic perspective. Keywords: Acne Vulgaris, mukhdushika, khudrarog.
