“A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW OF SAINDHAVADI YOGA AN AYURVEDIC ANTI-TOXIC FORMULATION FROM GADANIGRAHAâ€
*Dr. Neha, Dr. Vyshnavi K. and Dr. Rupali Y. Gatfane
Abstract Background Agada Tantra, the branch of Ayurveda dealing with toxicology, offers a wealth of knowledge on managing poisons (Visha) from various sources. Classical texts describe numerous formulations designed to counteract toxicity. Saindhavadi Yoga is one such potent polyherbal-mineral formulation mentioned in the medieval Ayurvedic text, Gadanigraha. Objective This review aims to conduct a comprehensive analysis of Saindhavadi Yoga, exploring its classical references, ingredients, method of preparation, probable mode of action from both Ayurvedic and contemporary pharmacological perspectives, and its therapeutic potential. Methodology A thorough literary review was conducted using the classical Ayurvedic text Gadanigraha by Acharya Sodhala as the primary source. Supporting information was gathered from other key Ayurvedic treatises like Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, and Bhavaprakasha Nighantu, as well as from modern scientific databases like PubMed and Google Scholar for pharmacological data on the individual ingredients. Results Saindhavadi Yoga is composed of Saindhava Lavana (Rock Salt), Maricha (Piper nigrum), and Nimba Bija (Azadirachta indica), administered with Ghrita (ghee) and Madhu (honey). The formulation is indicated for Sarva Visha (all types of poisons), including Sthavara (immobile/plant-based) and Jangama (mobile/animal-based). The individual ingredients possess established Vishaghna (anti-toxic), Srotoshodhana (channel cleansing), Rakta Shodhaka (blood purifying), and Yogavahi (bio-enhancing) properties. The synergistic action of these components provides a multi-pronged approach to detoxification by neutralizing toxins, facilitating their elimination, and enhancing the body's resilience. Conclusion Saindhavadi Yoga stands as a testament to the sophisticated pharmacological principles of Ayurveda. Its rational composition suggests a significant potential for managing toxic conditions. While it holds historical and theoretical value, further preclinical and clinical studies are warranted to validate its efficacy and safety for potential integration as an adjuvant therapy in modern toxicology.
