A REVIEW ON GUGGULU PANCHAPALA CHURNA – AN AYURVEDIC FORMULATION
Sakib Ali*, Dr. Shruthy Santhan, M.S (Ay) and Dr. Dipin Sai Babu C. B.
Abstract Guggulu Panchapala Churna is a classical Ayurvedic polyherbal formulation primarily mentioned in Ashtanga Hridaya by Acharya Vagbhata. It is composed of seven key ingredients, with Guggulu (Commiphora mukul) being the chief component used in a quantity of five pala, from which the formulation derives its name. Traditionally used for managing conditions like Bhagandara (fistula-in-ano), Kushta (skin diseases), Gulma (abdominal masses), and Krimi (parasitic infestations), this formulation also demonstrates therapeutic efficacy in various Vata-Kapha predominant disorders. The present review explores the classical references, ingredient properties, method of preparation, indications, and potential mechanisms of action of Guggulu Panchapala Churna. Its key pharmacological activities include sroto shodhana (channel purification), lekhana (scraping), medohara (fat-reducing), and vranashodhana (wound cleansing). The formulation is simple yet potent, with a wide therapeutic range, especially in anorectal and inflammatory conditions. Comparative references from texts like Sahasrayoga, Chikitsa Manjari, and Yogamrutham highlight its versatile applications. This review underscores the clinical relevance and classical wisdom encapsulated in this unique Ayurvedic preparation. Keywords: . [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
