Abstract

Introduction: Vrana is a common and frequently encountered problem faced in surgical practice. The presence of Dusta Vrana worsens the condition of the patient with different complications and may become fatal. Local factors on wound like slough, infection and foreign body, affect the normal process of healing. A healthy wound in a normal body heals earlier with a minimum scar as compared to a contaminated wound. Therefore, in this study all the efforts are made to make a Dusta Vrana into a Shuddha Vrana. Once the Vrana becomes Shuddha, Ropana of the Vrana will start. Methodology: Objective of the study was to evaluate the clinical efficacy of Yastimadhu taila in Dusta Vrana. A 52 years old male presented with non healing wound since 1 and ½ months at the 3rd toe of left leg. It was secondary crush injury and he had undergone treatmentat local hospital without any significant improvement. The Vrana Panchaka is considered for a clinical evaluation of the case. Significant healing in wound was observed by Ayurvedic treatment by Sodhana(Triphala Kwath), Roapn( Yastimadhu taila) and Bandhana. After 2 weeks of the treatment vrana attained sudha vrana lakshnana and progressive healing is being observed in weekly follow ups. Result: The results observed was based on the relief obtained on the parameters taken for consideration for this study viz, Pain, itching, Discharge, Smell, Colour, Epithelization, Granulation tissue and wound size. Wound has healed completely after 28 days. Discussion and Conclusion: On the basis of assessment criteria and overall result of treatment, Yastimadhu Taila showed good result. Hence it can be speculated that Yastimadhu Taila possess sufficient efficacy in Vrana Shodhana and Ropana without producing any adverse effects.

Keywords: Dushta Vrana, Non Healing Ulcer, Yastimadhu Taila.
