Abstract

Migraine is a chronic neurological disease characterised by recurrent moderate to severe headache associated with other neurological symptoms. Based on the similarity in etiology, pathology, symptoms and treatment principles Ardhavabhedaka can be very well connected with migraine. Ardhavabhedaka is described as one of the eleven types of Shiroroga (headache disorders) in Ayurvedic classical texts. As per WHO, Migraine prevalence and incidence of the attack suggest that migraine attacks around 3000 persons per million populations every day globally. With advent of modern drugs, the pattern of disease has grossly changed, where the drugs only assuage the symptoms temporarily and the underlying pathology goes on progressively to worsen the condition. In the management of Shiroroga Nasya karma is indicated in Ayurveda and practiced most. A clinical study was undertaken to evaluate the efficacy of Nasya in the patient of migraine. A 28-year female patient having chronic headache was diagnosed with Ardhavbhedaka. Patient had frequent episodes of Heavy headache along with other symptoms such as vertigo, nausea; vomiting, heaviness on eye ball, photophobia and phonophobia which were relapsing frequently even after continuous medication. The patient was primarily diagnosed as a case of Ardhavbhedaka. Shadhabindu tail nasya was administered twice a day before meal for one month with Pathyadi kadha and Shirashooladi Vajra rasa. After one month of treatment, patient reported relief from symptoms. It is concluded that chronic migraine of middle-aged person having vata dominance can be managed effectively with Shadabindu tail nasya with Pathyadi kadha and Shirashooladi vajra rasa.
