A REVIEW STUDY ON SHODHANA AND SHAMANA THERAPY IN THE MANAGEMENT OF MUKHADUSHIKA W.S.R. ACNE VULGARIS

. Abstract Mukhadushika or acne vulgaris is a common skin ailment with significant physical and psychological implications, particularly among adolescents. In today’s modern era, different types of pollution, lack of proper diet, uses of various cosmetic, chemicals all this leads prevalence of skin diseases day by day. Now a days acne vulgaris is one of the most common problem in adolescents. Acne vulgaris, commonly referred to as Yuvanpidika in Ayurveda, is a common skin disorder affecting adolescents and adults. According to Ayurveda text it occurs due to imbalance of Vata, Pitta, Kapha, Rakta and accumulation of toxins (Ama). Ayurvedic treatments aim to restore dosha balance and purify the blood through the use of herbal remedies, dietary modifications, and lifestyle changes. In Ayurveda, acne has been treated mainly by Shodhana (purification of body) and Shamana (conservative treatment) Chikitsa or combination of both. Though, several Ayurveda texts such as Sushruta Samhita, Ashtanga Hrudaya, etc., have elaborated the pathophysiology and treatment of acne. In this review article, we tried to highlight Ayurvedic Management of Acne vulgaris (Mukhadushika) mentioned in Ayurveda.
