ADENOMYOMATOSIS OF GALLBLADDERC. Bharath Professor of Pathology, Medical College, VIMS, BELLARY – 583 104, Karnataka. INDIA Abstract Background- Adenomyomatosis of gallbladder is a rare disease, characterized by epithelial and smooth muscle fiber proliferation and formation of mucosal pouches in the thickened muscular wall. Objective-To through light on evolution, biological behavior and patterns of the disease. Method-A resected specimen of gallbladder was received with 10% formalin preservative .It was grossed and multiple sections were given, processed in HIstokinette, embedded in paraffin and blocks were made. Thin sections of 4 to 5 microns were taken with microtome and stained with hematoxylin & eosin. Result- Microscopically showed infiltration of benign type of glands in the thickened muscular wall and diagnosed as Adenomyomatosis of gallbladder. Conclusion-Gallbladder adenomyomatosis is an uncommon and generally asymptomatic entity, when symptomatic it is manifested cholecystopathy. Due to uncertain evolution of this disease and confusion with carcinoma, histopathologic examination is gold standard for confirmative diagnosis.
