HOLISTIC CHILD HEALTHCARE THROUGH AYURVEDA: A MODERN REVIEW
Dr. Sanjay Kumar Verma*, Dr. Neeraj Agrawal, Dr. Lowkesh Chandravanshi, Dr. Styawati Rathia, Dr. Yasmin Bano
. Abstract Childhood represents one of the most sensitive and transformative phases of human life, characterized by rapid physical, mental, and emotional development. According to Ayurvedic science, this stage—Balya Avastha is predominantly governed by Kapha dosha, which plays a vital role in nourishment, tissue growth, and immune maturation. However, the same Kapha dominance may also predispose children to certain disorders. Drawing upon the principles of Kaumarbhritya, the specialized branch of Ayurveda that deals with pediatric health, this paper presents a balanced clinical approach addressing both the management of illnesses and the promotion of holistic wellness. Common conditions such as Shwasa-Kasa (respiratory disorders), Agnimandya (digestive weakness), Vicharchika (skin diseases), Unmada (behavioural disturbances), Apasmara (neurological disorders), and Balashosha (nutritional deficiency disorders) are managed through Deepana-Pachana (digestive enhancement), gentle detoxification, herbal formulations, and Medhya Rasayana therapies. In parallel, preventive practices like Suvarna Prashana and Lehana enhance resilience, sharpen intellect, and support emotional equilibrium. By harmonizing traditional Ayurvedic wisdom with contemporary pediatric insights, this review proposes a holistic and child-centred model of healthcare focused on sustained wellness and disease prevention. This review aims to bridge traditional Ayurvedic understanding with contemporary pediatric science, highlighting a holistic preventive model for child health. Keywords: Kaumarbhritya, Ayurveda, Pediatrics, Swarnaprashana, Medhya Rasayana, Child Health, Immunity. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
