Abstract
Pesticides are considered a vital component of modern farming. They
are used to control organisms that are considered to be harmful. They
are also used in grocery stores and food storage facilities to
manage rodents and insects that infest food such as grain. Now a days
preterm birth, spontaneous abortion and miscarriages are very common
problem. In this experiment bioremedial effect of Curcuma longa on
uterus and estrogen level of chloropyrifos induced mice were studied
in detailed. The control group of mice received distilled water as
drinking water. The treatment groups received Chlorpyrifos 6 mg/kg
b.w daily by Gavage method for two, four and eight weeks followed by
four and eight weeks administration of alcoholic extract of root of
Curcuma longa (50 mg/kg/b.w/day). Animals were sacrificed after the
scheduled treatment. Chloropyrifos causes increase in estrogen level. Degenerated
endometrium and muscular layer was observed. Frequent vacuolization was observed in
stroma layer. While Curcuma longa causes restoration in estrogen level. Endometrial layer
and endometrial gland were restored to greater extent. Muscular layer was almost normal
like. Thus it is concluded from entire study that Curcuma longa restores uterus effectively
and decreases chances of miscarriage, preterm birth and spontaneous abortions.
