PULSATILE DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM: A REVIEW

Abstract Pulsatile drug delivery systems are developed to deliver drug in a programmed pattern i.e. at an appropriate time and/or appropriate site of action. The rapid and complete drug release occurs after predetermined lag time. The principle rationale for the use of pulsatile release of the drugs where a constant drug release is not desired. Diseases wherein PDDS are promising include cardiovascular diseases, arthritis, asthma, cancer, hypercholesterolemia, peptic ulcer, neurological disorder, diabetes. The current article focuses on the diseases requiring PDDS methodologies involved for the existing system, recent advances in PDDS, technologies, PDDS product currently available in the market.
