REGULATION OF DIABETES AND ALTERATIONS IN ANTIOXIDANT ENZYMES ON SUPPLEMENTATION OF ALOE VERA IN MALE ALBINO-RATS

Abstract

To investigate the protective use of ethanolic extract of aloe vera (al) on antioxidant enzymes in diabetic rats. The Protective effect of AL in experimental was evaluated in this study. Three months old male wistar rats were divided into 4 groups (n=6) namely: control, control+ AL, (300mg/Kg body weight) diabetic (Alloxan 40mg/kg body weight), diabetic + AL (300mg/kg body weight). Biochemical parameters were estimated after 21 days of experimental period. Plants with Antidiabetic activities provide important sources for the development of new drugs in the treatment of diabetes mellitus. The aim of present study was evaluate the Antioxidant effects of Aloe vera leaf Extract in Alloxan induced diabetic rats. Antioxidants associated with a Super oxide dismutase (SOD), Catalase (CAT), Glutathione peroxidase (GPX), Glutathione Reductase (GR) and Glutathione-S-transferase (GST) statuses were observed in Alloxan induced diabetic rats. Oral administration of Aloe vera leaf extract at a dose of 300mg/kg BW once a day for 21days showed significant changes in diabetic rats and regenerative liver histopatholocal changes were observed in the Aloevera extract in diabetic rats. Our results clearly indicate that Aloe vera leaf extract has potent antioxidant enzyme effects in Alloxan induced diabetic rats and therefore further studies are warranted to isolate and characterize the bioactive Antidiabetic Principles from Aloe vera Plant
