Abstract Potency selection is one of the most important aspects of homoeopathic prescribing. Among the various potency scales, high potencies occupy a significant place in the treatment of chronic and constitutional diseases. The choice of a high potency depends upon factors such as susceptibility, vitality, nature of disease and similarity of symptoms. Various homoeopathic masters including Dr. Hahnemann, Dr. Boenninghausen, Dr. Kent, Dr. Close and Dr. Roberts have discussed the utility of high potencies in clinical practice. This article reviews the principles, indications, advantages, limitations and clinical applications of high potency prescribing in homoeopathy.
