ROLE OF INDIVIDUALIZED HOMOEOPATHIC MEDICINE BARYTA MURIATICUM 30 IN THE MANAGEMENT OF ESSENTIAL HYPERTENSION: A CLINICAL STUDY

Abstract

Background: Hypertension is one of the leading noncommunicable diseases worldwide and a major contributor to cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Despite the availability of effective antihypertensive drugs, many patients continue to experience poor blood pressure control because of inadequate adherence, adverse effects, and associated chronic illnesses. Homoeopathy emphasizes individualized constitutional treatment and aims to restore health by stimulating the body's self-regulatory mechanisms. Baryta muriaticum has been recommended in classical homoeopathic literature for cases associated with arteriosclerosis, increased arterial tension, cerebral congestion, and vascular degeneration. Objective: To evaluate the clinical role of individualized homoeopathic medicine Baryta muriaticum 30 in patients with essential hypertension. Materials and Methods: A prospective clinical study was conducted on 30 patients with essential hypertension attending the Outpatient Department of M.N. Homoeopathic Medical College and Research Institute, Bikaner. Cases fulfilling the inclusion criteria were selected and prescribed Baryta muriaticum 30 according to constitutional totality. Patients were followed regularly and assessed clinically. Results: The highest incidence was observed in the 41–50 years age group (40%). Urban patients constituted 86.67% of the study population. Psora was the predominant miasm (46.66%). Clinical assessment revealed marked improvement in 26.66% of cases, moderate improvement in 36.66%, mild improvement in 30%, and no significant improvement in 6.66%. Conclusion: Individualized homoeopathic treatment with Baryta muriaticum 30 was associated with clinical improvement in a majority of patients with essential hypertension. Larger controlled studies are recommended to further evaluate its therapeutic role.
