Abstract

Medicinal plants have been used for thousands of years as an important source of therapeutic agents for the prevention and treatment of various diseases. Even with the rapid advancement of synthetic pharmaceuticals, plant-derived medicines continue to play a significant role in modern healthcare because of their wide therapeutic range, relatively low cost, and better patient acceptance. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), nearly 80% of the population in developing countries relies partly or entirely on traditional herbal medicine for primary healthcare needs. Many modern drugs, such as aspirin, quinine, and digoxin, originated from medicinal plants, highlighting the importance of ethnomedicinal knowledge in drug discovery.
