Abstract

SIMULTANEOUS ESTIMATION OF CIPROFLOXACIN AND TINIDAZOLE IN BULK AND COMBINED TABLET DOSAGE FORM BY DIFFERENCE ABSORBANCE SPECTROSCOPY

Malathi Raghunath* and Amol Dhamne

Abstract

A simple, precise and rapid spectrophotometric method has been developed and validated based on difference absorbance technique for simultaneous estimation of Ciprofloxacin (CPX) and Tinidazole (TNZ) in bulk and combined tablet dosage form. The sampling wavelength for each of CPX and TNZ was determined by scanning in the wavelength range of 200-400 nm in spectrum mode. The sampling wavelengths selected for analysis were 293nm for CPX (zero cross on difference spectra in 0.1 N NaOH vs. 0.1 N HCl for TNZ) and 342nm for TNZ (zero cross on difference spectra in 0.1 N NaOH vs. 0.1 N HCl for CPX). Beer’s law was obeyed in the concentration range of 2- 10μg/ml and 2-20μg/ml for CPX and TNZ respectively. The proposed method was found to be suitable for determination of both drugs in bulk powder and commercial dosage form such as tablets without interference of commonly used excipients and additives. This method was validated for linearity, accuracy, precision, robustness, ruggedness, LOD and LOQ as per ICH guidelines.

Keywords: Ciprofloxacin, Tinidazole, Difference absorbance method, ICH guideline, Validation.
