ACUTE TOXICITY STUDY AND ANTIDIABETIC ACTIVITY OF POLY HERBAL HYDRO ETHANOLIC EXTRACTS [PHE-A, B, C, D AND E] OF INDIVIDUAL PLANTS IN DIFFERENT RATIOS
Anita Singh* and Anil Waldia
Abstract The present study was an attempt to investigate the effect of polyherbalextract on acute toxicity and streptozotocin induced diabetes in albinorats. The polyherbal extracts were obtained from the plants of Berberisaristata, Eleusine coracana, Abelmoschus esculentus, Eugeniajambolana, Tinospora cordifolia crude drugs in different ratios. Theblood glucose level was measured on 0th, 7th, 14th and 21th day andbody weight, lipid profile ware measured at the end of the study i.e.after 21days of treatment. Polyherbal extract and glibenclamide show asignificant (p<0.001) reduction in blood glucose level, lipid profile, where as both the treatments increased body weight, liver glycogencontent and antioxidant status when compared to the diabetic control. It has been concludedthat Polyherbal extract posses antidiabetic activity in the streptozotocin induced diabeticmodel. Keywords: Antidiabetic, Berberis aristata, Eleusine coracana, Abelmoschus esculentus, Eugenia jambolana, Tinospora cordifolia and streptozotocin. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
