Abstract Barleria gibsoni belonging to the family Acanthaceae is commonlyknown as Neel Koranti. Several species of Barleria are reported fortreatment of inflammation associated diseases like Gout, Rheumatismand swelling etc. So, the present work has been taken forphytochemical screening and to investigate Hepatoprotective activity.Natural remedies from medicinal plants are considered to be effectiveand safe alternative treatment for liver injury. The present study wasconducted to evaluate the Hepatoprotective activity of aqueousethanolic [30:70] extract of aerial parts of Barleria gibsoniDalz.(AEEBG) in albino wistar rats. The study was conducted usingthe popular inducing agent Paracetamol (PCT) in Carboxy methylcellulose (CMC) and silymarin was used as reference standard in therespective model to treat for 21 days. The effect was estimated by measuring the enzymaticlevels. Phytochemical screening of AEEBG revealed the presence of phytocontituents likecarbohydrates, phenolic compounds, tannins and flavonoids. The aqueous ethanolic extract ofaerial parts of Barleria gibsoni Dalz. has shown very significant hepato protection againstPCT- induced hepatotoxicity in albino wistar rats. Keywords: Barleria gibsoni, Hepato protective activity, Paracetamol, Carboxy methyl cellulose, silymarin. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
