EFFECT OF EXTENDERS AND PRESERVATION PERIODS IN SOME SEMEN CHARACTERISTICS OF AWASSI RAMS

Abstract A study was conducted to investigate the effect of the different extenders and preservation periods in some characteristics of Awassi ram semen. Semen from three Awassi rams was collected weekly then preserved for three days in refrigerator after diluted with three different extenders (Tris, hydroxymethyl aminoethane; Sodium citrate; and Milk). Diluted semen was evaluated daily by means of five traits. Significant differences (p < 0.05) between extenders were found in progressive motility and acrosome defects, while for other characteristics (pH, dead and abnormal sperm percentages) were not significant.
